You Can Use Fruits and Veggies as Treats!

Add These Fruits and Veggies in Your Dog's Diet as a Tasty Treat!

Fruits


Apples are high in Vitamins A and C and fiber. They are low in fat and protein, which makes them great for senior dogs. Make sure there is no core or seeds,  as dogs cannot have those. You can even try freezing apples to make them a cool summer treat!

Bananas are packed with vitamins and are high in potassium, fiber, niotin, and copper. They are also a low-calorie treat, but they should be given in maderation as they are high in sugar.

Blueberries are a superfood! They are rich in antioxidants and fiber. You can even freeze them for a nice cool summer treat!

Watermelon is packed with Vitamins A, B6, C, and potassium. They are also a great way to keep your pet cool and hydrated on hot summer days. Dogs cannot have the seeds or rind, so make sure that those are removed before snacking!

Cantaloupe is packed with nutrients and is high is fiber. It is also a low-calorie snack. However, it is high in sugar, so it should be given in moderation.

Strawberries are high in vitamin C and fiber. They also have an enzyme to help whiten your dog's teeth while they eat them!

Pineapples are packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber. But make sure that there is no crown, prickly outside, or core before letting your dog snack on them.

Pears are high in Vitamins C and K, fiber, and copper. Frozen pears also make a great summer treat, but make sure that there are no pits or seeds,  and that they are fresh (canned pears are too high in sugar to use as dog treats).

Mangoes are a great source of vitamins A, B6, C, and E, as well as potassium, beta-carotene and alpha-carotene. Mangoes need to have the pit removed  before given as treats, and they are high in sugar, so they should be given in moderation.

Cucumbers are great healthy treat to give to your dog- they are high in vitamins K, C, B1, as well as potassium, copper, magnesium, and biotin!

Peaches are a great source of vitamin A and fiber. They can also help to fight infections! However, peaches need to have the pits removed  before giving them as treats as they are toxic to dogs. You can also freeze peaches for a cool treat for hot days!

Veggies 


Carrots are high in beta-carotene (great for eyes!) and fiber. They are also a low- calorie snack, and are great for teeth.

Broccoli is high in vitamin C and fiber, and low in fat. Broccoli should be cut up, and should be given in small amounts, as large amounts can make your dog a little gassy.

Peas (green peas, snow peas, sugar snap peas, garden peas, and English peas) are packed with vitamins and minerals. They are also high in protein and fiber.

Zucchini is great frozen or raw, especially on a hot summer day because they are full of fiber and water to keep them hydrated. Zucchini should be given as a treat in small amounts at a time, and shredded.

Brussel Sprouts are packed with nutrients and antioxidants. These veggies can cause gas, though, so they should be given in moderation.

Celery is high in Vitamins A, B, and C. It can  also help to freshen bad dog breath, and has a great crunch!

Sweet Potatoes are high in vitamins, minerals, and fiber. These are great cooked, puréed, or mashed. These should be given in small amounts, as too much can cause diarrhea or upset stomach.

Green Beans are great treats any way- chopped, cooked, raw, or canned. They are rich in vitamins, mineral, and fiber.

Kale can be given as a treat dried, steamed, or raw. It helps to fight allergies, urinary tract problems, and arthritis. These can also make your dog gassy, so it should be given in small amounts.

Parsley is high in beta-carotene and potassium. Just like celery, this veggie also helps to freshen bad dog breath, and a few chopped bits can put put in with food or even in a Kong toy!
